Brittany & Jade
In the pictures showing both girls, Jade is on the left and Brittany is on the right. Both girls arrived at Izzy's Place from National Mill Dog Rescue (NMDR). NMDR rescued them directly from a puppy mill, where they were raised and forced to breed over and over again until they were too old to have puppies any longer.
Jade and Brittany are very sweet Chihuahuas who would do best in a home without small children. Both girls get along with other dogs of all sizes. Brittany is learning how to be a dog and go outside and play with everyone else. She needs some help increasing her confidence. Jade is definitely a leader. She's been teaching Brittany how to go potty outside with the other dogs, how to come for dinner, and how to let their people know she wants to be picked up.
Update: As of late January 2017, Brittany has found her voice, and she's been using it to let her people know when she wants something. This is a huge step for this little girl, as she was incredibly timid when first rescued. Jade continues to become even more social and is starting to really enjoy interacting with two-leggeds. She's learned a lot about how to dog from the other dogs in their foster home, and she continues to encourage Brittany to try new things.
It would be nice if Brittany's and Jade's future forever home has at least one other friendly, trained dog; however, because Jade has learned so much about dogging and likes to help Brittany learn how to dog, we are not making this a requirement for these two particular mill-rescue girls.
Note: Brittany and Jade are a bonded pair; therefore, potential adopters will need to adopt them both. Splitting them up is not an option.
It can often take a little extra time to train dogs who've spent their lives in puppy mills, even for common skills such as house training and leash walking. So it will be critical that Brittany's and Jade's new family have patience, understanding, and gentle hands. It's important to note that most mill-rescue dogs learn quickly to become a family pet. For the families who adopt mill rescue dogs, being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
